FAQ’s relating to the Competition for
GEMBOREE 2011.
1. If no material has been specified it means that the competitor can cut any material according to the rules and definitions of the Competitor and Judging Manual for Lapidary and Allied Competitions Issue No 7 April 2006.
2. In Sections O 1B.5 and N 1B.6 the specified material is Petrified Wood. Opalised Wood will not be accepted.
3. Trophy AT – 19 Patrick C Murphy for the Champion Junior Mineral Competitor is shown in the GEMBOREE 2011 Booklet and WILL be presented.

This photo is an example of what the Competition Committee had in mind for this section.
This example is shown in a lit case because this was the only case available.
At the Bathurst GEMBOREE 2011 these entries will be in showcases without light – only natural or hall lights.
This section will be judged as Showcase General – Unlit. Refer to section 29A in the Competitor and Judging Manual for Lapidary and Allied Competitions Issue No. 7 (Page 89 onwards)
5. Open / Novice Sections O.8B.1 / N.8B.2
Material – Sapphire
The Gem Cad has stated that the angles for P2 should be 42.00 degrees it has been checked and you can also use 41.00 degrees if you wish.
Both these angles will be accepted.
6. Eyes for carving, eyes and claws etc can be “not stone” but what about taxidermy eyes? The answer would be YES taxidermy eyes would be accepted.
7. Sections O.1A.5, I.1A.6 and N.1A.7 state the material to be Tiger’s eye. Tiger’s Iron and Tiger’s matrix with Jasper/Haematite will not be accepted.
