Changes to J & R Manual  7 – (Added here 18 May 2012).

page 22 D4.1 of the J & R manual no 7 the addition words required after the words “ not machine faceted in any way “ are “ or the use of any device ,or attachment  which allows the competitor to cut a better   stone than purely by hand, or with the traditional dop stick.  Then continue with “stone may  etc.

Page 10  sectionB7.3 b   Addition to be added after the [word] committee & before the word AFLACA

.       If the competitor has submitted an entry or entries that are received by mail, & then returned by mail, the competitor will have 14 days to lodge such an appeal.

.  Metal clay group & judging sheets.

Metal Clay be added to the competitions as  section no [ TO BE IDENTIFIED PRIOR TO THE J & R MANUAL 8 ]  & that  the Judging sheets for  this section be a mirror from page 72, 73, 74, & 75 of the manual no 7.  To be included in the new manual no 8, & can be used prior to the new manual by using the above judging sheets if listed as SPECIAL CONDITIONS.

.  Faceting. Group 11. Page 53, D11.7.4.an extra word to be added to this.  The wording  to read  [ a fancy cut is any cut lacking  one or more of the features:  [Table, Crown, Girdle, Pavilion or Meets]

Update of Mineral Variety.  Page 109 H4.4 b – Remove from the list as these names are now obsolete (Reference “Glossary of Obsolete Minerals”).

Chalcotrichite, Chiastolite, Chloanthite, Cleavelandite, Crocidolite, Hexagonite, Hyalite, Jeffersonite, Knipovichite, Mboziite, Penninite, Phengite, Salite, Thurungite.

The prefixes:- Fero, Fluor, Hydroxy, Magnesio and Mangano are now obsolete in relation to and must not be used with minerals in the following group  -  Apatite, Alum, Apophyllite, Axinite, Columbite and Polybasite. (Reference “Glossary of Mineral Species 2008”)

This ruling was accepted and passed at the AFLACA J & R meeting on 23 April 2011 and was to become effective immediately – therefore Competition Committees can use this ruling now as long as it is written as a Special Condition.
